Big Data Congress 2017 – Technical Track

At this year’s Big Data Congress, ACENET is sponsoring the Technical Track. These two sessions will be technical in nature, oriented to programmer/developers, data scientists, CTOs and CIOs. They may also be of interest to companies seeking to hire data scientists, or to add data analytics capability to their organization.

Session 1: Industrial Internet of Things, November 7th, 10:30am-12:30pm

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is an exciting and growing area. It may very well grow faster, though be less obvious to mass consumers than the Internet of Things in their homes (for example, smart thermostats and appliances). It will nevertheless have great impact. The IIoT is concerned with monitoring and guiding the operation of production processes. Often in these environments, fast processing and analysis of data is required for performance optimizations in near real time. This real time data processing requires that data be analyzed and acted upon locally, leading to the emergence of edge computing or fogging, where the processing is done either near the edge of the network, or at various levels across the network in the case of fogging.

This session will discuss the components required to monitor, process, analyze, and finally to act based on near real time data being generated from IIoT devices, and how to put these components together to function in a nearly automated way.

Session 2: Visual Analytics, November 7th, 3:00-5:00pm

Detect the expected and discover the unexpected! Visual analytics is an outgrowth of the fields of information visualization and scientific visualization that focuses on analytical reasoning facilitated by interactive visual interfaces (Wikipedia), and is transforming how we view and analyze data.

Join us in this session to learn how to analyze, interact with and gain insight from data through visualization, and if and how visualizing Big Data is different. Using popular visualization tools, Dr. Fernando Paulovich will use examples from his work to demonstrate how the tools have been applied. The discussion will include the uncertainty in data, how to provide context for insights drawn from the visual analysis, and how big data tools are incorporated into the visual analytics process.
