Using software-carpentry.org materials this workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Unix Shell, Version Control with Git and Python. This workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of Python, including data types, conditional statements, loops and functions. The goal is to teach the practical knowledge needed to start programming, debugging and using Python in everyday tasks. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems.
The course is aimed at academic and industry research teams. Previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop is not required. You do need to bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc) on which you have administrative privileges, as you will need to pre-load specific software packages.
