An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Tuesday, repeating until April 21, 2020
This is the second workshop of the Programming Workshop Series 2020 at Memorial University. Using software-carpentry.org materials this workshop will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Unix Shell, Version Control with Git and R. It will be hands-on and will cover basic concepts and tools, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems. The goal is to teach the practical knowledge needed to start programming, debugging and using R in everyday tasks.
The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. You don’t need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop. You do need to have a laptop with a Mac, Linux or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc) on which you have administrative privileges, as you will need to pre-load specific software packages. It will also be useful to have a headset and extra monitor set up for a dual screen option.
This workshop will take place online on Tuesday afternoons from 12-4pm starting March 31st and finishing on April 21st.
