ACENET Team Member Receives Compute Canada Award of Excellence
June 5, 2017
Dr. Craig Squires, one of ACENET’s Advanced Computing Systems Administrators, was one of three recipients of a national Compute Canada Award of Excellence. The awards were announced at Compute Canada’s national TECC Summit on June 5th at Queen’s University.
Dr. Squires, located at Memorial University in Newfoundland & Labrador, received the award for outstanding support and service to the research community. More than 200 people make up the technical support team that provides access, support and training to Canadian researchers using the advanced computing systems provided through Compute Canada by the four regional consortia – ACENET, Calcul Québec, Compute Ontario and WestGrid.
In addition to managing and maintaining ACENET’s high performance computing clusters, Dr. Squires, by virtue of his PhD in Philosophy, is one of Compute Canada’s humanities and social sciences specialists, supporting researchers in those fields. Two years ago, he won one of two national scholarships to accompany a Dalhousie-based researcher to the Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI) held annually in Victoria BC. He has since participated in planning and teaching sessions during DHSI.
